Who is St. Thorlak?

Thorlak Thorhallsson (Icelandic: Þorlákur Þórhallsson; 1133 – 23 December 1193) was Bishop of Skálholt from 1178 until his death.

He was canonized on January 14, 1984 and declared the patron saint of Iceland by John Paul II. His feast day is 23 December, when Thorlak's Mass is celebrated in Iceland.

Although relatively little information is available for St. Thorlak, he is known for his determination, intelligence, love of the monastic lifestyle, and devotion to enforcing a rigid set of rules.

These traits indicate that he may have been autistic and as such, has been adopted as the patron saint of autism.

The name of our task force, BOOST stands for the “beloved offspring of St. Thorlak”.

St. Thorlak, pray for us.
